Second Congress on Limburg Landscape history, 31 August 2018

MACCH is again co-organiser of a congress on landscape as history and heritage in Limburg, together with main organiser LGOG, Het Limburgs Landschap, the Regional Historical Centre, the Limburgs Museum and the Archaeological Society of Limburg. Key themes will be Limburg landscape and UNESCO World heritage, landscape history, heritage and landscape design, and new forms of historical landscape research. The venue, the historical Castle of Arcen and its gardens, will itself be investigated as a subject of landscape history in guided tours.

Key concepts as the landscape biography and the authored landscape will be discussed, new research paths opened which try to combine academic and local research with contemporary experience. The above-mentioned concepts will also be discussed in the context of current debates on and practices of landscape design. The congress will make clear that all issues related to landscape as heritage involve a wide variety of stakeholders and disciplines – both in research and in design.

The congress also includes a panel discussion on the issue of the chances and possibilities of the South-Limburg landscape as UNESCO-World Heritage from the angle of the landscape biography of a Cretaceous landscape through the ages. The conference will be concluded with the premiere of the TV-series on the history of the Limburg Landscape, a joint effort of L1, Het Limburgs Landschap and the LGOG.

Keynote speakers are: Dr. P.A.J. Caljé, Dr. N. Randeraad, Dr. E. Storms-Smeets and Ph.D. researcher M. Purmer.
A tour through the Castle and its historical gardens is included.
The conference is in Dutch.
