Matthijs Huizing working for ITEM

Mr. Matthijs Huizing, Former chairman of the Actieteam GEA (Action Team for Cross-border Economy and Labour),has joined the team of Expertise Centre ITEM of Maastricht University. With his position as ‘advisor external affairs’, he will represent the expertise centre in order to form a link between science, politics and policy.

On 15 March 2018, Matthijs Huizing started as advisor of external affairs at the Institute for Transnational and Euregional cross border cooperation and Mobility / ITEM of Maastricht University. Matthijs Huizing is a former member of the House of Representatives of the Netherlands and was active as the chairman of the Actieteam GEA (Action Team for Cross-border Economy and Labour) between 2015 and 2017. The team was set up to boost cross-border cooperation in the area of economy and labour.

Starting this month, Matthijs Huizing will represent Expertise Centre ITEM in order to form a link between science, politics and policy. The objective is to forward substantive knowledge of Expertise Centre ITEM towards national, European and international politicians.

Expertise Centre ITEM is the pivot of research, counselling, knowledge exchange, and training activities in the domain of cross-border mobility and cooperation, and can be consulted by policy advisors or legislators to assess the effects of proposed or previously implemented legislation for border regions.
