The 25th anniversary of the Master of Health Professions Education
2017 was a special year for the MHPE programme: at Maastricht we celebrated our 25th anniversary, and our partner programmes in Singapore and New York celebrated the graduation of their first cohort – in the company of some very special guests!
On May 31, students from the MHPE Maastricht programme, as well as visiting students from the MHPE New York and MHPE Canada programmes presented their Master theses during a Symposium on Health Professions Education. The symposium featured a plenary interview session with a special guest panel consisting of local and international “big names” in our field: Henk Schmidt, Charlotte Ringsted, Adina Kalet and Cees van der Vleuten. They reflected on 25 years of health professions education and where to go from here. The symposium was so successful that we will make this an annual event!
On June 1, the 2015-2017 cohort received their degrees during a festive graduation ceremony. The ceremony was opened by Rector Magnificus Rianne Letschert and featured contributions of local and international staff and alumni. On July 21, the first cohort of our MHPE Singapore programme received their degrees during a special ceremony that also celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. His Excellency, Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam, President of the Republic of Singapore attended the event as Guest-of-Honour. Chief Justice of Singapore Sundaresh Menon delivered a keynote entitled “Law and Medicine: Profession of Honour, Service and Excellence”.
On August 29, representatives from the Maastricht, Canada, New York and Singapore programmes got together for our annual MHPE management dinner at AMEE in Helsinki, where we looked back on a successful year.
We congratulate all MHPE graduates with their degrees and look forward to the next 25 years of MHPE!
