Welcome to the fifth newsletter of MACCH. MACCH is a transdisciplinary research centre that brings together economic, legal, (art) historical, philosophical, sociological, and practical expertise in the field of arts, culture and heritage.

In this newsletter we announce our annual conference on ‘Crossing Borders in Arts and Heritage’ that will take place on 18 and 19 March 2018 and is organised in collaboration with the Bonnefantenmuseum. Furthermore, we will update you on recent research accomplishments, events that have taken place, as well as upcoming events.

In Maastricht, 2018 – the European Year of Cultural Heritage – gets off to a good start with the European Commission formally designating the title of European Heritage Label to the Treaty of Maastricht. At Maastricht University too, 2018 starts promising with two public PhD defences on the topic of heritage: On 18 January 2018, Tim van der Heijden will defend his dissertation Hybrid Histories: Technologies of Memory and the Cultural Dynamics of Home Movies, 1895–2005. On 7 February 2018, Bart Zwegers will defend his dissertation Heritage in Transition: Global and Local Challenges in Germany and the United Kingdom, 1970-2010.

For more information about their research, as well as on the annual conference, please keep an eye on the MACCH website.

We look forward to welcoming you in Maastricht in the New Year!

Kind regards,

Dr. Vivian van Saaze, Managing Director
