FOCUS on Simulated and Standardized Patients Course 3-5 April-2019
Standardized Patients are key to the medical education or health professions education process. The Benefits are clear. It means “learning to life” and “improves the quality of education”.
A student who wants to become a doctor will find themselves in school for at least 6 years. During their time there, they will study things such as anatomy, pathology, and biochemistry. They will spend countless hours with their noses buried inside textbooks to learn terminology and proper procedures or ethical practices. There are not many chances for students to gain real life experience during their medical or health professions education programs. It is especially difficult to experience real life interaction with patients. That’s why a simulated and standardized patient program exists. Simulated and standardized patients are people who are trained to portray, in a consistent, standardized manner, a patient in a medical situation.

Anyone who works with Simulated/Standardized Patients (SP) understands the complexities of training and incorporating SPs into an effective simulation curriculum.
This course is designed to unravel these complexities, examine and expand techniques and reconstruct the theories and application of the SP Methodology in a simulation activity. This course is developed in collaboration with ASPE (Association of Simulated and Standardized Patient Educators). Course leaders are the current international leaders in the field of SP methodology and maintain leading executive board positions of ASPE.
