From Ghana: the story of Jonathan Quartey, MHPE alumnus

By

Since January 2019, Jonathan is appointed as the head of the newly established Health Professions Education Unit of the College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana. But, how did his career develop over time?

Upon completion of his masters in physiotherapy in Ibadan, Nigeria, he was encouraged by the former Dean of the School of Allied Health Sciences, College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana, professor Edwin Wiredu, to pursue a Masters in Health Professions Education at Maastricht University, which he completed in 2008. This influenced his interest in health education and his PhD thesis topic, which focused on physiotherapy education, which he obtained from the University Pretoria, South Africa. As senior lecturer, head of the Department of Physiotherapy and current head of the health professions Education Unit, he motivates teachers and students to adopt and adapt learning strategies that could help them become lifelong learners. As the current Chairman for the World Confederation for Physical Therapy for the Africa region, he represents physical therapists and their organizations on the African continent and physical therapy interests around the globe.

Dr. Jonathan Quartey, (MSc. (Physiotherapy), MSc (Health Professions Education), Head of the Health Professions Education Unit of the College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana.
