Update on Care for Beira Campaign
After the cyclone Idai hit Mocambique, fantastic and heart-warming initiatives started in our faculty initiated by SHE Collaborates. Staff and students donated and shared messages on social media. On Saturday May 11, the Maastricht University Library organised a book sale
All proceeds of the book sale were donated to ‘Care for Beira’, in aid of the Universidade Católica de Moçambique (UCM). On Tuesday 28 May in a small ceremony, book sale organisers Elke Hamelers and Philip Kalisvaart handed over a cheque of nearly €2,500 to Marlieke Bouwmans of SHE Collaborates.

Care for Beira - all under one roof!
On March 15 2019, Geraldine Beaujean, employee of Maastricht University - SHE Collaborates, endured one of the biggest natural disasters ever: cyclone Idai. This cyclone killed hundreds of people in Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe. Geraldine was taken by surprise by the cyclone during a visit to the Universidade Católica de Moçambique in Beira, a collaboration partner of Maastricht University. She has seen with her own eyes what destruction Idai has left behind.
The training institute still has an urgent need for new, safe accommodation. The roofs of brand new classrooms have been completely destroyed by fallen trees. Help us to make a good start to the upcoming academic school year in Beira; help colleagues and fellow students.
To help build up our partner university and to resume education, € 20,000 is needed (as a supplement to the € 20,000 raised earlier for Beira). Your help is extremely important here. This collection campaign only runs until July 15; on this date it is exactly 4 months since cyclone Idai destroyed the city of Beira. Care for Beira - give your colleagues and fellow students in Mozambique a university environment that is just as safe as yours is!
