Foreword by Maurice Zeegers
I was delighted to see this year’s group picture that was made during the CAPHRI Research Day that took place on 6 November. It shows 225 (!) CAPHRI members who came to Château St Gerlach to meet each other. It is good to see that there is a strong sense of collaboration and coherence within CAPHRI. In this special edition newsletter I would like to look back on the Research Day. Enjoy reading and….. thank you for being CAPHRI!

Support staff workshop "De Droommachine"
The best way to enter the workshop ‘The Dream Machine’ for support staff is with an open mind: think big, act bigger. And so we did. The goal was to make a wish for another person come true. This meant brainstorming in different settings and start planning this event and that is what we do best of course. Heartbreaking projects came to light: a V.I.P. day for a volunteer aid, seeing the Northern Light for a person cured from cancer, a family day for grandma and a fund raising day for the KWF (Dutch Cancer Society). And the best is yet to come as all these wishes are going to come true!

66 abstracts were submitted by CAPHRI PhD candidates for the poster session (see abstract booklet here). 36 abstracts (2 per research line) were selected to be presented as a poster. Finally, all submitted posters were reviewed by CAPHRI’s Scientific Committee who selected 12 posters to be also pitched during the poster & pitch session. The public attending the Research Day voted for the Public Poster Award. The winner was Esther Steenaart (upper picture) with her poster "How to save a life: Teaching lower-educated students about organ donation". The scientific committee chose the winner of the Poster & Pitch award, which was Karin van Leersum (bottom picture) with her poster "What matters to me: Developing and improving a web-based tool for clients in long-term care". Both Esther and Karin belong to the research line Promoting Health and Personalised Care.

Special attention was given to Prof. André Knottnerus who formally retired in October this year. He was awared a bronze medal to thank him for all the work he has done for CAPHRI. André played an very important role in the development of the Department of General Practice and he was a co-founder of CAPHRI. His scientific career is impressive, but above all he is a tremendous beloved colleague.
