There is a growing interest in Design Based Research (DBR). But, what is it and why should we embrace it? Or should we wait till this new wave is blown over? Is it old wine in new bags?

The ties that bind: social support networks in academia
I saw a recent Twitter post highlighting loneliness among PhD students and in academia. This made me ponder. Do I feel lonely?
A part of my PhD research is focused on the social support of medical students as they transition between phases in training. Consequently, I’ve become more aware about my social support network.

Positive Assessment for SHE

SHE Research Assessment 2012-2017
In the Dutch university system, research programs need to be accredited each six years. The SHE research program has been assessed for the period 2012-2017, together with programs in the field of educational research from the University of Amsterdam, Utrecht University, the University of Groningen, the University of Leiden, the Open University of the Netherlands, and the national research school ICO. Research programs were assessed on three criteria: Research quality, Societal impact and Feasibility. We are very pleased with the outcomes of the assessment of the SHE research program: Excellent for Research quality, Excellent for Societal Impact, and Very Good for its feasibility. The full assessment report can be found here.

NEW Section: "SHE PhD Shake the World"
The kick-off is for Darryl McGill, an Australian cardiologist, who has defended his doctorate on 29 May 2019. He has studied supervisor ratings of residents in postgraduate training. He demonstrates nicely how some things that we do routinely in education and since ages, is not so optimal as we tend to think. Watch the video and the dialogue with his supervisor Cees van der Vleuten on his PhD Thesis
