Consequences of the extended lockdown

|
During last night's press conference, the lockdown was extended until 9 February. Because of this, UM has had to take appropriate measures. For example, education will continue to take place online throughout Period 4. The 45th UM Dies Natalis on 29 January cannot take place in its planned form. And all events, including PhD defences, will remain online for the time being.
Education throughout Period 4 online Perhaps many of you were hoping for a return to on-campus education in the coming period. Unfortunately, due to the extended lockdown, we have had to decide that education will continue fully online throughout Period 4 (February to early April). Please note that laboratory classes and exams will still take place on campus. Because it is important that staff and students know enough in advance what their situation will entail for a certain period of time, we are confirming now that education will take place fully online until the end of the period, even if the lockdown in its current form and scope is lifted during Period 4.
Dies Natalis programme drastically changed Due to the extended lockdown, the Executive Board has decided to drastically change the plans for the celebration of the 45th UM Dies Natalis on 29 January. The awarding of the honorary doctorate to prof. dr. Jaap van Dissel, as well as all other honours and awards, will be moved to the Opening Academic Year on 30 August 2021. Instead, Rector Rianne Letschert will address the entire UM community online on the Dies Natalis, 29 January. You'll soon hear where to watch and listen to this speech.
All events stay online All gatherings, meetings and events at UM will continue to take place online until the Dutch government changes the current form and scope of the lockdown. PhD defences will remain online until 12 February. During this entire period, PhD defences may be postponed.
