Bouwien Janssen about herself ánd the UM Star Lectures
'This newsletter is largely dedicated to the UM Star Lectures: a series of lectures for Maastricht University alumni on the same day and at the same time. The fifth edition will take place on Thursday 7 February 2019. On that day, 14 professors will speak about a socially relevant theme at the same time in 14 cities spread out over 5 countries, from Maastricht to Munich and from Berlin to Breda. They will touch on such interesting topics as the future of Europe, food as medicine, careers and health and many more besides.
While the UM Star Lectures are an opportunity for alumni to gain knowledge and inspiration, they are primarily intended as networking opportunities, where alumni can reacquaint themselves with their alma mater and exchange fond memories. As such, the UM Star Lectures provide a great opportunity for the university, its alumni and the business community to mingle. Building bridges between UM and society is one of my ambitions in my new job as Director of Development & Alumni Relations and Director of the Limburg University Fund/SWOL. After almost 25 years at Rabobank, it was time for me to take up a new challenge. I've been with UM since July 2018 and it has been very enjoyable so far. Given that I'm a UM alumna myself, this knowledge institution in my home province has a special place in my heart!'

Why you don't want to miss the UM Star Lectures!

Reaching a joint solution isn't always easy – especially when no fewer than 28 parties are involved! For the member states of the European Union, however, this is the day-to-day reality. How do they develop and implement policies? And could it be done differently? Professor Esther Versluis will be speaking about this during the UM Star Lectures. She explains why you really shouldn't miss the event.

About his career (path) and beautiful Maastricht
Dry, abstract, complicated: just a few opinions which students of economics and other subjects often have when it comes to the theme of 'finance'. Once they have graduated, however, the gap between science and practice actually turns out to be fairly small, says Professor Jaap Bos. This is also evident from his presentation during the imminent UM Star Lectures. Perhaps you have experienced this for yourself? In any case, this presentation is not to be missed!
