Possible limited reopening of higher education at the end of April

During the press conference of 23 March, it became clear that due to the increasing infection rates, the vast majority of the COVID-19 measures cannot be eased. However, the minister did announce that, if the figures allow and with the use of self-testing, a limited reopening of higher education might be possible after 26 April. What exactly that means for us, we need to investigate in more detail. In this email, we let you know the next steps.
On campus or not? In anticipation of a hopefully positive decision at the end of April, we will immediately explore what a possible limited reopening of UM means for education, exams and COVID-19 testing, among other things. If the infection rates do indeed allow a limited reopening at the end of April, then we want to be well prepared. That is why we are now carefully taking the necessary steps in order to be able to formulate concrete plans. When we have more information, we will inform you as soon as possible.
What can we expect until then? Until we have explored all possibilities, we can at least share the following with you:
- Opening of tutorial rooms investigated: In order to already offer students something, we are investigating whether the tutorial rooms in the faculty buildings can be partially opened in the near future. With all necessary precautions taken into account, of course.
- Education in periods 5 and 6: What a possible limited reopening at the end of April means for education in periods 5 and 6, you will hear from your own faculty as soon as possible.
- Online PhD defences continued until the end of lockdown: As current restrictions have not yet been eased, PhD defences will continue online at least until the end of the lockdown.
As soon as we have more clarity, we will inform you of the next, concrete steps.
