Lockdown extension - a few things for you to know
|
|
|
In the press conference on 2 February, it was made clear that the lockdown will last until at least 2 March 2021. Therefore, we would like to remind you of some of the arrangements that will remain in place at UM for the duration of the lockdown. You can also read about when we expect to be able to say more regarding education in periods 5 and 6 and what you should do if it is necessary for you to travel abroad.
Education in periods 5 and 6 The government has extended the lockdown until 2 March. At this time, it is completely uncertain whether a relaxation of the measures will be possible after this date, and what that might look like. In light of this, we are currently considering what this means for education in periods 5 and 6. By next Friday, 12 February, the faculties will communicate directly with their students and teaching staff regarding further details.
Study places for students who experience difficulty studying from home For the entire duration of the lockdown, a number of study places will remain available for students who are unable to study at home or find it difficult to do so. This includes places for students with a disability, students with mental or physical problems, students who feel lonely, students with caregiving responsibilities, students who have children at home and students who do not have good study facilities at home.
If you fall into one of these categories, you can reserve a place via the reservation app of the University Library. You can reserve one time slot per day, from 8.30 to 13.00 or from 13.00 to 17.00.
As of this week, there are 150 places available per time slot (previously there were 100). If you do not make use of your reservation or do not use the entire time slot, please indicate this in the reservation app so that other students can use the vacant spot. In the reservation app, you can also see throughout the day if any last-minute places have become available.
For students with a functional disability, there will always be a place to study. If your disability makes it difficult to use the app or if all the reservations are fully booked, you can request a study place via Ask Your Librarian.
See also the University Library FAQ for more information.
Corona-related declarations During the lockdown, you may need a corona-related declaration or statement for various reasons. This includes, for example, if you have to make a necessary work- or study-related trip abroad or if you are a cross-border worker/student and need to visit a UM location.
To give you an overview of the various types of declarations and how you can request them, we have outlined this information on the website.
Only travel abroad if it is absolutely necessary and always take into account the COVID-19 measures in force in the country concerned as well as the measures that apply in the Netherlands upon your return.
PhD defences The current arrangements for PhD defences will be continued until the end of the (extended) lockdown. PhD candidates who have a defence scheduled during this period will be given the choice of either conducting it online or postponing it until a later date.
