All of his jobs on the side while he was a UM student brought Joep van Agteren (30) a reward. Without a doubt, the most valuable of these is his girlfriend Nicola, who he met while working for the Erasmus Student Network (now the International Student Network).
At the end of her sojourn at UM, in late 2014, he decided to join her in her homeland of Australia. He now lives and works in Adelaide, which he describes as 'Maastricht on a larger scale'. We spoke to him by telephone about the value of 'intervention mapping', visa red tape and 'shit sandwiches'.

Upcoming Bachelor’s Open Day On Saturday 13 October, our Bachelor's Open Day will allow prospective students to experience what it’s like to study in Maastricht. A lecture by Hermien Miltenburg will enable parents help their children choose the programme that is right for them. UM-employees are also welcome to come and take a look. For more information, visit this site.
Human Brain Project Open Day, 15 October 2018 What is consciousness? How do our brains make sense of the world around us? What is mental health? Can computing technologies lead to new cures for brain disorders? How can you delay Alzheimer's disease? You will find the answers to these questions and more, during the Human Brain Project Open Day on 15 October 2018.

Limburg University Fund supports young researchers
|
|
Each year, the Limburg University Fund (SWOL) supports various academic projects expected to have an impact on society. For example, the fund recently awarded a grant to three researchers who are using a combination of virtual reality, EMDR therapy and machine learning to make psychotherapy more accessible and affordable.
The grant has already allowed them to begin work on a prototype and will also be used to have their method scientifically validated.

Launch of the Limburg University Fund's annual fund campaign
|
|
Each September sees the launch of the annual fund campaign. In addition to professors, former staff and existing donors, part of the alumni community is also requested to contribute financially to the next generation.
The Limburg University Fund supports a wide variety of studies being conducted at UM, such as research into dementia, children's rights, pre-eclampsia and the health of slum inhabitants in India. In order to achieve all of the intended aims, extra funds are required.
Under the slogan 'Geef voor een gezonde toekomst' (Donate for a healthy future), the Limburg University Fund is requesting donations towards teaching and research.
