Best wishes of the Management Board
|
|
Dear colleagues,
The Management Board of MHeNs wishes you all the best for 2020. 2019 was another exceptionally successful year for the School, with many excellent PhD theses, academic publications, public engagement activities and funding successes. The high number of personal grants and fellowships, in particular, attests to the success of our talent development programme, which receives a great deal of support from the Faculty and University centrally.
We have successfully completed the first half of our current evaluation circle and will use the reflections and discussions that we had while preparing the midterm report as starting point for a review of our strategy, which we will present as part of our external review in 2021/22. We will run a number of events over the next two years, and staff members and PhD students will be asked for their ideas and suggestions. In 2020 we have an exciting programme of MHeNs lectures, divisional and departmental seminars, workshops and summer schools coming up, and we look forward to seeing you (staff members, PhD and MSc students) there. Please also make a note of our two full-day events, the Research Strategy Day on June 4th (for members of academic staff) and the Research Day on October 7th (for all staff and PhD students).
Best wishes,
The MHeNs Management Board

Good brain health lowers the risk of dementia
UM researcher Kay Deckers was announced the first ever winner of the Young Outstanding Researcher Award, for the most promising dementia researcher. With this new prize, awarded by Alzheimer Nederland, the Dutch health foundation wants to keep young researchers in dementia research and to accelerate research into solutions for people with dementia and their caregivers. The research of neuropsychologist and epidemiologist Deckers focuses on the relationship between lifestyle factors and the chance of developing dementia. The young researcher received €100,000 - and he already knows how to use the money.
