What do you need to know before the new week begins?
|
|
|
Usually, we want to leave you alone as much as possible during the weekend, but after last night's press conference we can imagine you're wondering what things will be like for us starting next Monday. So, we'll let you know what you can roughly expect in the next few weeks and, if necessary, get back to you with more details as soon as possible. In the meantime, what do you need to know about your work or study before the new week begins?
Education and research continue
With the new measures, our education and research can continue to take place on campus as it has since the beginning of the academic year. Nothing changes as far as that is concerned. We are happy about this, especially since recent studies confirm that students suffered a lot as a result of online education. However, there will be a maximum group size of 75. More information about that at the end of this mail.
Take a critical look at your working-from-home/on-campus hours
Future of working @UM agreements have already been made in several places within UM, and many of us, even now, are still complying with the new measures. However, we ask you to reconsider, together with your manager, whether the distribution of your working-from-home/on-campus hours is the best, considering the current COVID-19 situation. Do you no longer feel comfortable with the agreements you’ve made? Then talk to your manager again to find a suitable solution together.
If you are on campus: follow the basic rules!
By now you can recite them in your sleep, but we’ll repeat them one more time:
- In case of symptoms, stay at home and get tested at the Municipal Public Health Service (GGD). Even if you have been vaccinated.
- If you test positive, stay at home. Even if you have been vaccinated.
- Face masks are mandatory if you’re moving around our buildings.
- 1.5 metres is a safe distance to keep from one another (education is exempted from the mandatory 1.5 metre-distance rule).
- Don’t shake hands and wash them often and thoroughly.
- Cough and sneeze into your elbow.
- Indoors, provide fresh air and ventilate.

Self-test, self-test, self-test When you come to campus, we ask you to take a self-test twice a week. You can still order the self-tests free of charge via zelftestonderwijs.nl. On campus, free self-tests can be taken from the containers found at every building’s reception. In case of a positive self-test, make an appointment with the Municipal Public Health Service and do not come to campus.
Which other on-campus activities may take place...
All activities that are a part of our teaching and research are allowed to continue. In view of the current developments, all activities with a social component must be cancelled. For example, graduation ceremonies, PhD defences and inaugural speeches can take place, but they cannot be followed by drinks on campus.
...with up to 75 people
The maximum group size for education and all other activities on campus is reduced to 75 persons per room. Education timetables will be adjusted as soon as possible where necessary, and we also ask that the maximum group size be observed immediately when organising other activities. Exams are exempted from this rule by the government.
All of this also goes for the University Library and the Learning Spaces
The University Library and the Learning Spaces remain open. Here too, the maximum group size of 75 people per room applies.
Still have questions?
In the next few days, we will investigate whether additional arrangements are necessary. If so, we will get back to you with more information as soon as possible.
In any case, don't forget that, as always, we are committed to creating the safest possible environment for you on campus.
