MACCH Annual Conference: Trust and Transparency in the Art and Heritage World and its Practices.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the 1970 UNESCO “Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property”, as well as the 25th anniversary of the 1995 UNIDROIT “Convention on Stolen or Illegally Exported Cultural Objects”. In celebration of these anniversaries, MACCH hosts its annual, transdisciplinary conference in collaboration with the Dutch UNESCO commission – parallel to and in direct vicinity to The European Fine Art Fair (TEFAF).
The conference will take place from 15 to 17 March 2020 at Hotel NH, Maastricht (next to MECC/TEFAF).

Masterclasses, Conference and Workshop: Design Thinking & Maker Culture: Sticky Learning for the 21st Century

In the context of the IGNITE project, MACCH affiliated researcher Dr. Costas Papadopoulos is involved in the organisation of a conference (25-26 March 2020) and a pre-conference workshop (24 March 2020) in Vienna, Austria, around the twin concepts of design thinking and maker culture in teaching and learning.
In addition, masterclasses are being organised at Maastricht University and at Aarhus University. The theme of the masterclass held on 3-5 March at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Maastricht University, is: “Exploring the IGNITE curriculum for MA teaching, lifelong learning & professional development"

Symposium: Towards a Euregional CultureCard

Representatives from museums and the cultural sector hailing from across the Euregio Meuse-Rhine gathered at Groote Societeit in Maastricht on 25 November 2019. They were attending the Terra Mosana Symposium, hosted by MACCH and the Institute for Transnational and Euregional cross-border cooperation and Mobility (ITEM), where the feasibility of an Euregional CultureCard was being discussed. The CultureCard aims to encourage cross-border museum visits and cross-border cultural collaborations.

Symposium: The Meuse’s Living History

In response to the success of the Biography-of-the-Meuse meeting in January 2019, Dr. Nico Randeraad and Dr. Christian Ernsten organised on 4 and 5 October 2019 a 2nd Biography of the Meuse meeting at the Historical Centre Limburg. During this meeting, researchers, designers and representatives of societal organisations responded to the question: “How can we mobilize the Meuse’s living history to ensure a sustainable river system that increases the well-being of humans and non-humans?”

Julie Fassbender is administrative assistant at MACCH’s partner institute Stichting Restauratie Atelier Limburg (SRAL). As one of the leading institutes in the field of conservation and restoration, SRAL fosters an environment of learning and collaboration. Supported by SRAL, Julie enrolled in the master’s programme Arts and Heritage at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Maastricht University. Julie reports on her experiences combining her studies at Maastricht University with her work at SRAL.
