Congratulations to Saskia Brand-Gruwel and Piet Leroy for accepting their professorship at Maastricht University by giving their inaugural lecture!
Embrace vulnerability
On the 8th of March, Piet Leroy gave his inaugural lecture entitled 'Embrace vulnerability'. He has been appointed as a professor of ‘Procedural Sedation and Analgesia (PROSA) in children’ at Maastricht University. This chair is embedded within the School of Health Professions Education (SHE).
In light of this, he was interviewed by MUMC+ in which he elaborates on his work: 'Trauma-free care for sick children'. Read also his interviews with De Volkskrant and NRC.
Beyond choice stress: a manageable design perspective on flexible education

Niels van der Baan talks about the intersection between his doctoral research and HPE
|
|
In the context of his recent promotion and appointment within SHE as an assistant professor, Niels van der Baan talks about his doctoral research and reflects on how his expertise is relevant to HPE and SHE (and to our research program). Because Niels obtained his doctorate outside the health professions education (HPE) domain, this provides an interesting perspective.

with projectleader Anique de Bruin
|
|
Last year, Prof. Dr. Anique de Bruin, together with Prof. Dr. Peter Verkoeijen (EUR/Avans University of Applied Sciences Breda), was appointed as project leader of the NRO funded, national consortium "SELFLEX: Towards Evidence-informed Support for Self-regulation of Flexible Learning". The project has now been running for 6 months.
Higher education offers great flexibility as students are largely free to decide where, when, and how to study. Currently, a need for more flexibility in what students learn is emerging. For students to thrive in flexible higher education, practice-oriented research on supporting students’ self-regulated learning skills is required.
Our consortium’s research will provide insights into how instructional design and technology enhance self-regulated learning skills, and how they can be scaffolded and adapted to the learning environment and to students’ motivation. These insights will lead to (technological) design guidelines and intervention programs for educational professionals, and support-modules for students and teachers.
Check also their website and LinkedIn page for more information!

New introduction video by SHE Collaborates director Emmaline Brouwer
Watch the introduction to SHE Collaborates in this video!
Collaboration between UCP and UM
The collaboration between Católica Medical School (UCP) and Maastricht University (UM) has stepped up another gear this month. UCP will launch their Master of Medicine in September of 2024, and the preparations towards implementation is now underway. During the recent meeting in Lisbon, UCP and UM experts once more put their heads together on establishing learning outcomes, rotations design and configuration of the action plan going forward. SHE Collaborates is proud to work alongside our Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences (FHML) colleagues in supporting UCP on this journey.
In this video, you can get an inside in the UCP master medicine discussions.
Dirisana+ (Erasmus)
Cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practices - Capacity Building in the field of Higher Education
Liz Wolvaardt, Associate Professor at the University of Pretoria, talks about the collaboration:
''The meaning of Dirisana is to help each other do. This week’s academic visit from the University of Pretoria is an example of the spirit of the project. I am sure that it is the start of meaningful collaboration between our two universities in the area of research literacy for our undergraduate health sciences students in Africa and transforming assessment in the ClinA programme at our institution. Read more about Dirisana+ and about our Undergraduate Research in Health journal that we started. I return energised and grateful for all the wonderful conversations and offers of collaboration!''
