Below you can read where you can find more information about the reduction in the 2021-2022 statutory tuition fees and the policy regarding enrolment before completing prior education. You will be informed about the fact that the Netherlands are no longer a high-risk area for Germany, and we remind you again about self-testing and tell you what is now possible at UM SPORTS.
Statutory tuition fees 2021-2022 will be reduced by half: what does this mean for you?
Previously, we have informed you that the Dutch government decided to reduce the 2021-2022 statutory tuition fees by half in order to help students as much as possible during the pandemic. From now on you can check the tuition fees web pages to see what this means for you (scroll down for the tuition fee guide).
If, after thoroughly reading all available information, you still have questions about your individual situation in relation to tuition reduction, please contact the student counsellors.
Enrolment before completing prior education (zachte knip)
We have already informed you of the adjusted policy regarding enrolment before completing prior education (zachte knip), another of the compensation measures put in place to support students whose study progress has been delayed due to the corona pandemic. Due to the policy changes, you can register for a subsequent education programme without having completed the required prior education programme. If, due to the pandemic, your study progress in the academic year 2020-2021 was not sufficient to complete your current programme, you might still have the opportunity to start your following education programme at UM for the academic year 2021-2022 (subject to certain conditions applying to both the September and February intakes).
Read here if you are eligible for conditional enrolment in a programme via the zachte knip policy.
Programme variations Each programme has its own requirements to admit students on the basis of the zachte knip policy: specific information can be found on the Admission Requirements page of each programme. (You can find this page by selecting a master’s programme on the overview page and then choosing 'Admission requirements' in the dark blue menu on the left.)
By the end of June, you will receive more information on how to submit an application to be eligible for conditional enrolment in a programme via the zachte knip policy. You can submit your application for the September 2021 intake from mid-July through 15 August.
The Netherlands no longer a high-risk area for Germany
As of 30 May 2021, the Netherlands is no longer a ‘high-risk area’ for Germany, but a ‘risk area’. This means that the entry rules for travellers from the Netherlands were relaxed on 30 May 2021. This brings us back to the situation as it was prior to April 6. Students and staff are again exempt from registration, testing and quarantine requirements.
UM SPORTS open again
The University Sports Centre (USC) is open again and the sports programme has been expanded! Since last week, members can play squash and climb again in addition to working out in the fitness area. Also, a number of student sports clubs have fully resumed their practice sessions: Squash It Up, Saturnus, HEEP, Dutch Mountains, Manos, Fyrfad, Kinran and Mas Incontro are back in full training mode. The USC outdoor offering currently consists of aerobics classes, strength & conditioning and small group training. Members are kept up-to-date via the newsletter.
Self-testing
We want to remind you once again to order your free corona self-tests by post. This can be done with your UM account via www.zelftestonderwijs.nl. If you experience technical problems when ordering, please send an email to serviceteam@zelftestonderwijs.nl. We're already doing a good job; according to the Association of Universities in the Netherlands, UM employees are the frontrunners!
You can order a maximum of one set of four self-tests per person per week. Please only order self-tests if you are sure you will go to one of the UM buildings. This way, there will be enough self-tests for people who are required to come to campus.
