Professionalism and Integrity in Research
Like in any profession, scientists are frequently faced with dilemmas: Can I exclude particular observations from my research? Can I use exactly the same data set for multiple papers? By exposing you to such dilemmas in the context of a critical dialogue, this game aims you to support you in further developing your own “moral compass”.
The game lets you consider, choose and defend alternative courses of action regarding a realistic dilemma regarding professionalism and integrity in research.
FHML has made this game available to make the issue of scientific integrity more negotiable
If you want to play the game please send an e-mail to secr-mhens@maastrichtuniversity.nl.

New joint research in neurodegenerative diseases announced
|
|
The Joint Programming Initiative on neurodegenerative diseases has pre-announced a new transnational call for proposals for “novel imaging and brain stimulation methods and technologies related to neurodegenerative diseases”. This joint call will further promote research aiming at the development of novel technologies, as well as the advanced use of existing cutting-edge brain imaging and brain stimulation technologies related to neurodegenerative diseases. Approaches must be translational and patient-centred and focussed on the areas of either imaging technologies, or, brain stimulation techniques. The Netherlands intends to support this call, which is expected to be launched early January 2020. The call will follow a two-step procedure, with a likely closing date for pre-proposal submission in March 2020. Further details will be provided at the call launch.

Call by University of Liège and Maastricht University for joint PhD Theses
The University of Liège (ULiège) and Maastricht University (UM) collaborate closely towards a joint imaging valley.
This call aims to fund two joint PhD theses, during which the candidate will work at both institutions. Each PhD candidate will be appointed at one of the two institutes, but will spend time in both institutions (ideally 50-50, provided it is relevant for the research to be carried out). This call will fund one PhD candidate appointed at ULiège and one appointed at UM.

Psychiatric Genomics: Translating Research Finding to Clinical Use
Mental disorders such as schizophrenia and affective disorders (depression, bipolar disorder) have a strong genetic component. Recent breakthroughs in genetic research have provided unprecedented insights into biological underpinnings of the vulnerability for the disorders.
The 2020 EnGagE workshop will continue on this successful path of discussing, developing and disseminating important and timely topics in psychiatric genetics. It will be hosted at the House of the Province where the European Treaty of Maastricht was signed in 1992.

Human Neuroanatomy - registration now open!
|
|
The research institute Mental Health and Neuroscience and EURON offer the PhD course entitled: “Human neuroanatomy and its clinical application“. The course is intended for PhD students in the field of Neurosciences, neuropathology, psychology and psychiatry. The course will introduce the human neuroanatomy by lectures and hands on practical light microscopy and dissection of a human brain under supervision. Imaging techniques like MRI and PET will be introduced including site visits to the state of the art facilities. The application of these techniques to clinical diagnostics will be presented. The anatomical changes in selected diseases will be shown with hands on light microscopy under supervision. The correlation of human anatomy in health and disease to animal models will be discussed. In addition, the course includes an interactive seminar. The literature, on which the seminar is based, will be sent before the course.
