This issue of SHE Communicates celebrates our achievements from 2021. There is a lot to celebrate. All around the world, people within the SHE Community have studied health professions education, published papers, educated, changed, improved and collaborated. It is wonderful to see how much has happened in a year. I hope you enjoy reliving 2021’s highlights!

SHE has three core activities
SHE really makes an impact. Through a combination of research, education and international collaboration activities, we contribute to preparing (future) healthcare professionals for the challenges ahead.
Through high-quality interdisciplinary research, we generate knowledge and insights that inform health professions education and practice change. We achieve that by connecting the improvement of our current practice with the education for and in that practice of our future healthcare workforce. SHE provides high quality multidisciplinary research and teaching aimed at the improvement of health professions education and SHE helps to innovate education programmes.

My highlight of 2021 by Anique de Bruin

"I am immensely proud of the accomplishment of our 15 new doctors, who will surely continue to create local, national and global impact on health professions education research, and who resiliently finished their dissertation in the midst of a pandemic. Their work exemplifies how PhD research forms the backbone of, but also provides direction to SHE’s research programme. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for these recent graduates!"

My Highlight of 2021 by Geraldine Beaujean
"The SHEC team shows resilience: doing the utmost to stay connected in remote work.
During the past year it became even more clear: ‘Every healthcare system is only as strong as its weakest link’. That gave us the courage to continue collaborating to strengthen health professions education worldwide."

" I am so proud of the SHE Educates teaching staff that pulled off a complete revision of the MHPE programme regardless of the pandemic and all its complications. In the new, innovative MHPE programme we really practice what we preach: active learning centred around learning tasks, programmatic assessment and individualized learning trajectories.
Six months into the programme, we are happy to see that our students have worked on obligatory and elective tasks and have built up warm relations with their coaches. It takes time to get used to this different approach to assessment, for students and teachers, but we have made a successful start.
SHE Educates is equally proud of the successful continuation of our other programmes, the joint program with Egypt, the short courses and the summer course (online this year). A big thank you to all teaching staff for making this possible in 2021!"

Carolin Sehlbach and 'Partners in Care' team winner of the Marja van Dieijen Award
Of the 20 entries for the Marja van Dieijen Award, the jury nominated five projects. These five entries made a video pitch on which the entire MUMC+ could vote. The votes have been counted. After adding up the score of the audience and the jury, Partners in care came out on top. They have won the first Marja van Dieijen Award worth 25,000 euros. Congratulations!

At the School of Health Profession Education, we have about 15 PhD candidates each year that defend their PhD Thesis.

Midterm review 2021: "SHE loves to receive feedback”
In October 2021, a midterm committee assessed our Graduate School of Health Professions Education (SHE). In preparation of this assessment, we have written a midterm report in which we look back at all SHE activities from 2018 until 2020 and look at where we stand now, while also looking ahead. We thank all of our staff and affiliates who have contributed and still continue to contribute to our successful activities, and we are open to your suggestions or any queries you might have about the activities of SHE.
