In memoriam - Dr. Fred van Leeuwen
January 14, our dear colleague Dr. Fred van Leeuwen passed away. He had (just) retired in 2014. He enjoyed his retirement, but he actually never stopped with science. He was still affiliated with our School and kept in contact with colleagues. As proof of this we still have human and animal brain material in our freezers which he generously donated to MHeNS for research as well as teaching purposes.

The online intervention for carers, Partner in Balance is being expanded and adapted to also support carers in the United Kingdom!
Researchers at the University of East Anglia and Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT) are launching a new project to improve the lives of dementia carers in the UK.
They will work with carers and healthcare workers to co-develop and test a new ‘Carecoach’ support package – thanks to almost £2 million in funding from the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).
The research team will build on work carried out in the Netherlands, where a ‘Partner in Balance’ intervention has already been shown to reduce the burden and stress of caring for a family member or friend with dementia.

The NIAS-Lorentz Program calls for coordinators for the NIAS-Lorentz Theme Group
The NIAS-Lorentz Program is a collaboration established in 2006 by NIAS (Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences, Amsterdam) and the Lorentz Center (workshop center for all scientific disciplines, Leiden).
The NIAS-Lorentz Program promotes innovative interdisciplinary research that brings together perspectives from the social sciences and humanities on the one hand and the natural and technological sciences on the other. This program gives special attention to topics of societal importance that require extensive collaboration across traditional scientific boundaries in order to progress.
An NLTG can particularly benefit mid-career researchers who wish to explore and open a new interdisciplinary scientific field. We kindly ask you to draw the attention of possibly interested persons to the NLTG call. Thank you.
