Important news for PhD candidates and supervisors
|
|
As of January 1, 2024, the new PhD Regulations are also effective for FHML (CAPHRI) PhD candidates. We would like to highlight some important changes:
Registration of PhD candidates
With the new regulations, it will become even more important to register new PhD candidates with the Research Institute as soon as possible. For CAPHRI supervisors (promotors) it is therefore important to take the following actions when initiating a new trajectory:
- Register the PhD candidate using the steps indicated on the CAPHRI website.
- Submit a request to the Dean for admission of the PhD candidate to the PhD programme and approval of the supervisory team. Model letter 1 can be used for this purpose.
PhD training
Timely registration of a PhD candidate at the beginning of the PhD trajectory means that they can make optimal use of the training opportunities and other facilities we offer. We would therefore like to point out that ealy participation in the UM general PhD trainings will become mandatory for all PhD candidates, who started their PhD trajectory from January 1, 2024. The three courses mentioned in this training programme ('Research Ethics and Integrity', 'Open Science' and 'Science Communication') should therefore be included in the Training and Supervision Plan (TSP).
Composition of the Assessment Committee
From January 8 onwards, a proposal for composition of the Assessment Committee needs to be submitted by the supervisor using the PhD Track system (click here for instructions). The system is set up in such a way that only a proposal that in principle meets the requirements of the PhD Regulations, as stated in Article 16, can be submitted to the Dean. The Dean will then assess and digitally approve. This makes model letter 3, as included in UMployee, redundant for FHML PhD candidates.

CAPHRI researchers join forces in post-COVID research
|
|
CAPHRI researchers Nicole Dukers-Muijrers, Sander van Kuijk, Jean Muris, and Jeanine Verbunt, along with other UM researchers and practical professionals, are represented in the 'Post-COVID Netwerk Nederland'.
With a ZonMW grant of €9.1 million, the 'Post-COVID Netwerk Nederland' has been initiated to improve care for post-COVID patients. They collaborate to coordinate Dutch research, advise on methodology, data science, facilitate pathophysiological and laboratory research, translational and therapeutic research, and science communication.
The national network is a broad consortium of patients, scientists, healthcare professionals, and societal partners who collectively submitted a proposal to establish a robust research infrastructure. The goal is to promote post-COVID research and swiftly translate knowledge into practice.

Congratulations to Matty Crone, who has been appointed as professor of Health Promotion; the connection between Prevention and Care!
Prof. Crone is concerned with syndemic vulnerability in individuals and populations. A syndemic means 1) that health problems co-occur in individuals or populations, 2) that these health problems interact and lead to a greater burden of disease or worse health than expected, and 3) that social and individual processes create the conditions in which health problems cluster and interact.
