What will change from 25 September?
|
|
|
We’re not quite back to normal yet, but it’s starting to look like it more and more! This also means that we are slowly running out of UM-wide issues that we need to communicate to you. Information that is specific to your faculty or unit will therefore be communicated to you directly through internal channels in the coming period. But for now, we have a few more things to share with you following yesterday’s press conference.
Face masks off, smile on
As of 25 September, face masks can be taken off inside our buildings. However, in some cases it may still be desirable to wear a face mask. Your tutor or manager will tell you if this is the case. Of course, you are always free to wear a face mask if you would like. We hope that we can all agree to respect each other’s personal preferences.
‘At the office if necessary’
Our teaching staff have been able to come to campus again for some time now. For our non-teaching staff, the government has opted for a ‘work from home if possible, at the office if necessary’ approach during this phase of the pandemic. What this means exactly for how you should do your work every day, we ask you to determine together with your manager.
Compensation of commuting and working from home expenses
We have outlined a few practical matters for you regarding the compensation of commuting and working from home expenses:
- Commuting: In September, the current compensation arrangement will remain in place. From October onwards, we will return to a commuting compensation based on the actual number of days travelled, with a maximum of €54 per month. Whether this will be implemented as a fixed compensation or on a declarative basis is still being looked at.
- Working from home: It was agreed with the Local Consultative Body (LO) that the working from home compensation for the month of September will get a one-time increase from the current €40 to €50, to cover the month of September. After this, the agreements in the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) will be implemented as soon as possible. This means a fixed compensation of €25 per month for internet costs and €2 per day for the actual days worked from home. The way in which this can be registered is still being looked at.
Goodbye maximum group size
From 25 September, there will be no more restrictions on the number of occupants per room for educational activities. For exams, this will apply from 20 September. This will make organising our educational activities much easier. You can therefore assume that activities such as tutorial groups, exams, PhD defences and inaugural lectures will for the most part take place as usual (see ‘Mytimetable’ for details on your personal education schedule), and that we will once again be able to welcome our prospective students on campus during the open days.
Events not related to educational activities The exact rules for events that are not related to our educational activities, as we organise them at our university (e.g., conferences and receptions), are not yet entirely clear. As soon as we have the necessary information from the government, we will let you know what this means for us.
We’re repeating ourselves, but please keep self-testing
This relaxation of the measures is good and we’re happy about it. We also want to make sure that it stays this way. That's why we keep stressing the importance of self-testing (twice a week) to keep the spread of the virus under control. You can still order the tests for free at zelftestonderwijs.nl, at least until the end of October.
Please take a look at the flow charts if you are not sure whether you can come to campus.
