Costas Papadopoulos and Susan Schreibman Win Digital Infrastructure Grant

Costas Papadopoulos and Susan Schreibman have been awarded a prestigious €1 million grant from the platform Digitale Infrastructuur Social Sciences & Humanities (PDI-SSH). With this grant, they will develop PURE3D: a digital infrastructure for the publication and preservation of 3D scholarship. Such an infrastructure is in the national interest as it addresses a growing research area – elevating 3D models from static representations to digital scholarly editions.

A PhD In the Arts - Now Possible In Maastricht

Getting a PhD in the arts is now possible in Limburg. It can be done in MERIAN (Maastricht Experimental Research In and Through the Arts Network), a collaboration in the area of artistic research between Zuyd Hogeschool, Maastricht University, including MACCH, and the Jan van Eyck Academie. MERIAN is an environment in which selected PhD candidates from all artistic and academic disciplines can pursue Maastricht-style artistic research.

Preserving Artists’ Legacies: Research Workshop In Berlin

In January 2019, colleagues from Maastricht University and scholars in Germany organised an interdisciplinary research workshop to explore their interests in artists’ estates under the auspices of MACCH. The workshop brought together academics and practitioners and took place at the “Hybrid Lab” in Berlin, which is a joint initiative of the Technical University of Berlin and the Berlin University of the Arts hosting events between art and science. Attendees discussed the challenges of caring for (and sharing) contemporary artists’ legacies.

Report on the First Participatory Design Workshop of Terra Mosana

As part of Terra Mosana, a euregional project aiming to investigate, digitise and communicate the shared history of the Meuse-Rhine Euregion, several participatory design workshops are organised in different cities of the Meuse-Rhine Euregion. The goal of the workshops is to engage citizens in the design activities of Terra Mosana storylines. In February 2020, around eighteen project partners and twenty-two master’s students from the international master’s programme of Arts and Heritage and the Dutch program Kunst, Cultuur en Erfgoed (Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Maastricht University) contributed to the pilot participatory design workshop.

The European Heritage Awards, supported by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union, were launched by the European Commission in 2002 and have been run by Europa Nostra ever since. In his capacity of member of the Council of Europa Nostra, MACCH affiliated researcher Joop de Jong acted as expert assessor of the European Heritage Award 2020 winning project Scanning for Syria.
