SHE Collaborates in the public debate, where movie and reality meet.

By

SHE Collaborates was asked to introduce the movie the Cave on Monday 13 January 2020 to share their experiences about working under difficult circumstances. Studium Generale from Maastricht University offers public lectures and debates on a broad range of topics, from art, politics and history, to science and current events for academic expansion and deepening insights for scientists, students and other curious people, looking for new questions, answers and perspectives.

The Cave paints a stirring portrait of courage, resilience and female solidarity in working inside a subterranean besieged hospital known as the Cave in Syria’s Eastern Ghouta, where hope and safety lie underground

“In our introduction we shared experiences with working with training institutes for health care in fragile countries like Yemen or Sudan. Those colleagues who work under these difficult and disrupting circumstances consider academic collaboration with Maastricht University through SHE Collaborates very valuable. Somehow, it makes them feel they still belong to a world bigger than their direct environment and that they can contribute to make it a better world for all”.

Marlieke Bouwmans from the SHEC team was about to travel to South Sudan where she currently works for Doctors without Borders. She shared some of her experiences and expectations with the audience.
