Introducing New Member: Monika Barget

My name is Monika Barget, and I have joined FASoS as assistant professor in History this August. I specialize in early modern history as well as digital humanities. Apart from OCR and text analysis, my research interests include the modelling and visualization of spatial data. In addition to my position at UM, I am supporting the German-French geohumanities project DigiKAR as data and outreach consultant.I am supervising the data collection process and write Python scripts for data cleaning and data analysis. My personal research currently focuses on early modern perceptions of European islands and overarching questions of insular identities. In collaboration with Helen Dawson (Berlin), I intend to create a digital collection highlighting colonial island histories and islands as places of exile or deportation. We would also welcome contributions relating to former Dutch island colonies. Contributions can range from annotated photographs of objects to digital maps or video interviews with heritage professionals. Please contact me if you are interested in a collaboration.
