Retrospective ITEM Preuvenemint meeting

By

On Friday 26 August, the annual ITEM Preuvenemint-meeting once again took place. During this informal meeting, the status of ITEM activities and the upcoming plans for 2023 were presented to the stakeholders present. Here, the four core activities of ITEM were briefly explained in more detail by director Prof. Dr. Anouk Bollen-Vandenboorn.

The first core activity involves the social border effects analysis and knowledge dissemination, reflecting on current and future developments regarding cross-border governance, as advised by the administrative working group on border barriers led by Donner and Berx, and ITEM's role in this. From the second core activity, which covers demand-driven assignments, the current INTERREG projects, such as CrossQuality and EMRLingua, and upcoming developments around high water management and the INTERREG Flanders-Netherlands project in preparation of Donner/Berx, were discussed.

ITEM also undertakes several studies on a contract basis, as an example of a contract study, the study on the health insurance status of international (PhD) researchers commissioned by SOFIE/NUFFIC was discussed. Regarding the third key activity, training and courses, developments regarding a postgraduate programme with Hasselt University were presented. Finally, the fourth key activity focused on scientific basic research, with the substantive message that science and society cannot exist without each other: “socialisation of science & socialisation of society”.

Developments around a basic research project on security and police cooperation and Julia Reinold's PhD research on highly-skilled migrants in the Meuse-Rhine Euroregion were presented.

After the content presentations, the partners present continued the afternoon at the Preuvenemint to further discuss the issues presented and activities to be undertaken. We look back on a successful meeting. Interested in further explanation of the core activities and projects mentioned? Please contact ITEM.
