Yesterday, Thursday 18 April, one of our PhD's: Anouk Boonstra, had the privilege to talk about her project at Stichting @ease to our Queen Maxima and the Queen of Spain Letizia during their visit to LAB6, a meeting place for yuong people (12-23 years) in Amsterdam.

Today is the Dutch National Bicycle Helmet Day. Every year, thousands of accidents occur where cyclists sustain permanent brain injuries. Wearing a bicycle helmet, even on short trips to school or the supermarket, could certainly reduce this risk by a third. "If your helmet fits well, you're all set" is the slogan for this year, aiming for a streetscape filled with helmets! https://lnkd.in/ebdfRt5Q

From this Wednesday, 10 April, there will be a new campaign to encourage the wearing of bicycle helmets! The number of cyclists who end up in the emergency room after an accident with serious brain damage is increasing and the use of a bicycle helmet reduces the risk of this by a third. With this campaign we want to initiate a change by promoting the wearing of bicycle helmets among children and parents. In the short movies 'Wat ons bindt' Maastricht University Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences and the Maastricht UMC+ shows stories that connect both institutes. In this fourth reel you see our colleague Mark Janssen, neurologist and clinical neurophysiologist at MUMC and researcher at FHML. He leads research into the application of deep brain stimulation in patients who suffer from ringing in the ears (tinnitus). A study involving experts in the field of audiology, ENT, neurosurgery and clinical neurophysiology. They are all affiliated with the MHeNs research institute. According to tradition, the program of the Research Day also includes the research pitches of PhD's projects conducted across our 5 research lines. From each session/research line, 1 pitch has been appointed as the best by the audience. Congratulations to Colin Rosenau, Daniel Uher, Reine Ramaekers, Tatyana Branco Nunes, Emily Willems and Nathan DeJong to be awarded with this price! The people of our supporting staff are as much as important as our scientific colleagues. Therefore we dedicate a part of the programme of the Research Day especially for them. As they are divided in different divions and over different locations Rachelle Capponi, Daniëlle Moens and Damaris Kentgens had put together an interactive quiz to get to know each other better. Today, 20 March, we have our annual Research Day at Van der Valk Hotel Maastricht, supported by Media Service Maastricht BV. A day with the focus on co-creation, working together with experts by experience. Starting with lectures by Lizzy Boots together with a expert by experience on Partner in Balans and by Kim Rijkers together with a expert by experience on people with epilepsy who are candidates for resective brain surgery.
